What are the rounds in the Deloitte interview process?

Deloitte's US recruiting tips page, checked October 26, 2026, sets out five steps: meet us, start your search, apply, interview, and offer and onboard. It says to "Expect two to three rounds of interviews, via either telephone, video, or in person," with a mix of behavioral, technical and case-based interviews "depending on the role."

StageWho runs itLength (days, weeks or minutes)What it tests

The practice lengths come from Deloitte's free case prep tool and scenario prep tool. Both say they aren't assessments and that Deloitte doesn't track your answers, so you can practice as often as you like. Real interview lengths aren't published, so ask your recruiter for the schedule.

Which Deloitte roles get a case interview?

Deloitte's pages tie the format to the role without giving a full list by business. Its case and scenario interview tips point entry-level Consultative Offerings candidates to the case tool and entry-level Audit & Assurance candidates to the scenario tool. Behavioral questions run through all of its tips, and the mix depends "on the role."

That leaves a gap for experienced hires, tax roles and anything outside those two programs. Deloitte's pages don't say which formats those candidates get, so the honest answer is that it varies. Ask your recruiter one direct question: which formats will my rounds use, and who will I meet in each?

Plan for at least one behavioral round whatever the answer. Deloitte's general interview tips say interviews assess leadership, communication, managing ambiguity and balancing priorities, and those come from stories about your past.

What does a Deloitte case or scenario interview test?

Deloitte says case and scenario interviews test problem-solving, analytical ability, and "strategic and logical thinking," plus creativity and comfort with ambiguity. The cases are "fictional examples" of the client projects Deloitte works on. Its tips say you aren't expected to give the "right" answer, and should instead make your logic and thought process clear.

Deloitte gives a five-step approach: understand the issue, identify the underlying assumptions, summarize the issues and findings, state your recommendations, and outline next steps and expected impact. A Deloitte recruiter is quoted saying "Being able to show your work and explain your thought process during your interview can help set you apart."

The case has its own consistency trap. Deloitte asks you to "Develop and articulate a framework and initial hypothesis" early on. If your recommendation at the end contradicts that hypothesis, say so and explain what changed your mind, or the interviewer is left with two answers.

What do Deloitte behavioral interviews ask?

Deloitte's behavioral interview tips pair each sample question with what the recruiter wants to learn. A question about juggling many responsibilities tests how you balance priorities. "Tell me about a conflict you had with a team member" tests how you lead and work with others. A rush project without full information tests how you deal with ambiguity.

Deloitte recommends the STAR method: situation, task, action, result. Its interview preparation tips ask "What are some quantitative results you can point to?" So expect your results to carry numbers, and expect follow-up questions about them.

The same page adds a warning: "it's important not to make stories up. Your interviewer will know the difference, especially when they ask follow-up questions." Stories from part-time jobs, school projects and volunteer roles count, Deloitte says, as long as they're real.

Why do Deloitte interview stories drift from your resume?

Deloitte tells you to anchor your stories on your resume. Its behavioral tips say to "refer to the experiences and periods highlighted in your resume," because that consistency helps the interviewer link your past roles to the job. So the drift that hurts most at Deloitte is the gap between what your resume says and what you say aloud.

The first trap is the number. Your resume says one figure, and under a follow-up question you round it up. Deloitte's list of common interview missteps warns that "Not being able to discuss your resume in detail or embellishing it can undermine your credibility."

The second trap is time. A story set in a period your resume doesn't show, or a project that seems to span two jobs, invites the question you didn't prepare for. Keep each story inside the dates on the page.

The third trap is repetition. Over two or three rounds with several professionals, you'll tell your best story more than once, and the result tends to grow with each telling. The 5-item check for consistent answers shows how to repair a story that already changed.

How do you keep Deloitte answers consistent with your resume?

Before the first round, list every figure on your resume and write the story behind each one. For example, a resume line reading "cut month-end close from 10 days to 6" needs the same 10 and 6, the same team and the same year in every telling. That example is made up, so use your own records.

If a figure on your resume is one you can't explain under follow-up questions, fix the resume before the interview. A number is better left off rather than invented, because it's the guessed figure that moves when someone asks how you measured it.

Deloitte's video interview tips allow some help here. They say "Feel free to post your resume, reminders of stories, and notes about your experiences behind your laptop," while warning against reading scripted answers verbatim. A short fact sheet fits that rule, and McKinsey, by contrast, bans prepared notes (see the McKinsey interview process).

What platform does Deloitte use, and can you record the interview?

Deloitte's pages don't name a video platform. Its video tips say to test "the video conferencing software" with a friend beforehand. No published Deloitte rule on candidates recording interviews was found on the careers pages checked on October 26, 2026. So the safe default is to ask, every time, before anything records.

Use one sentence at the start: "Would you mind if I record this so I can review my answers afterward? It stays with me." Wait for a clear yes and accept a no without argument. The guide on how to ask to record your interview covers wording for panels.

A recorder on your laptop sits outside the meeting software, so the interviewer may see no notice. Read what Zoom, Teams and Meet show the other side first. And keep any tool that offers live suggestions closed, since Deloitte bans real-time AI help in interviews.

Does Deloitte allow AI tools in its interviews?

Not during them. Deloitte's page on AI in the recruitment process, checked October 26, 2026, says "Unless we explicitly tell you otherwise, you should complete your interview by yourself, without seeking assistance from others or using artificial intelligence tools." It says inappropriate use "will negatively impact your application/consideration for employment."

Before and after are different. Deloitte allows AI to research the firm, refine your resume and generate practice questions. After an interview, it says "You can consider using AI after an interview to reflect on your initial interview(s) and generate questions to help you practice for subsequent interviews." The roundup of employer AI interview policies compares five other employers' rules.

What should you do after a Deloitte interview?

Write down each story's facts and figures the same day, then check them against your resume before the next round. Deloitte says an offer usually arrives in writing within one week of your final interview, and that it notifies candidates of their status "as quickly as possible." Use the days between rounds to fix any drift.

The free 10-minute debrief template has a slot for every figure you used. The same method fits the Accenture interview process, where pay talk adds a second number to keep straight, and the Google interview process.

Prept is built for this step, as analysis after the call, never during it. If an interviewer agreed to a recording, it transcribes the round and quotes the moment you lost the room. The free tier includes one interview hour with no card, so you can debrief one recorded Deloitte round.
