Free ATS resume checker
See what a tracking system can actually read.
Upload your resume and we read the file the way an applicant tracking system does: whether the text is real, whether columns scramble it, and whether your headings, contact details and dates come through. Paste a job posting to see which of its terms your resume has.
- Free, and no account needed
- Your resume comes with you if you sign up
- The score comes from rules, so the same file always gets the same score
- Job match and writing tips from AI, every one tied to a line you can check
What the checker looks at.
What does the score measure?
Only whether a tracking system can read the file: that it has real text and not a picture of text, that it is one column, that the section headings are plain words, that your email and phone can be read out of it, and that it is two pages or fewer. It does not judge your writing.
What is "before you send it"?
Things a recruiter or their software will notice that are not about reading the file: a date of birth or home address, dates written two ways, two jobs that overlap, skills written as sentences, no LinkedIn link, an education entry with no qualification named. None of them changes the score.
How is the job match worked out?
AI reads the job description and lists the requirements a recruiter screens for, ignoring the company story, benefits and salary. Each must be quoted from the job description, or we drop it. Each is then looked for in your resume: as written, in another form, as initials ("CRM" for "Customer Relationship Management"), or in a line the AI quotes from your resume, which we check is really there. A requirement that is missing is only missing. Add it where your experience genuinely shows it, and never otherwise.
Why is a Word file only partly checked?
Columns and scans are properties of a PDF's layout, so they can only be measured in a PDF. A .docx gets every other check, and the report says which ones it could not run.
Where do the writing tips come from?
From Google's Gemini model, which reads the text of your resume (never the file) and suggests what to sharpen: a missing headline, a result with no number, an abbreviation a recruiter may not know. Every tip has to quote the line it is about, and we drop any whose quote is not in your resume. It is never allowed to tell you to add a skill you have not written down, and it does not touch the score.
Do you keep my resume?
Yes, so you can pick up where you left off: your resume, the job description and the report are kept on our server until you ask us to delete them. Every report has a "Delete my resume now" link, or email hello@prept.fyi. If you create an account, your resume comes with you. Its text, and any job description you paste, are sent to Google's Gemini for the job match and the writing tips; Google does not use them to improve its products.
