How job match works.

How is the score worked out?

Not by asking an AI for a number. AI reads the job's requirements and finds where your resume shows each one, quoting both. Then our code adds it up: a requirement shown by your work counts in full, one shown in part counts for half, one you only list counts for a little, and a missing one counts for nothing, with must-haves counting double. A missing must-have holds the score down whatever else is there: a missing required qualification to 2.5, one missing must-have to 6.5. A 9 is rare on purpose.

What counts as proof?

A line that says what you did. "Wrote the SQL behind the weekly pricing readout" shows SQL. "SQL" in a skills list, a job title, a course or "responsible for analytics" only names it, and a recruiter reads it that way too. Close is not proof either: billing is not accounts payable, and managing a team is not hiring one. A degree or certification is shown only by that degree or certification.

What does "shown in part" mean?

A line of your resume shows some of what the job asks, not all of it: you led engineers, and the job asks for engineers and designers. It counts for half. If you did the rest, say so in one line.

Why does it say I only list something?

Because the only place your resume says it is a list, a title or a course. If you have done the work, add one line that says what you did and what came of it, and the check will count it. In a free account Prept asks you about each one and keeps what you can evidence as a fact, in your own words, for every job after this one.

How are years of experience checked?

When the job asks for a number of years, we add up the dates on your resume, counting an overlap once, and say what they cover. That is your whole career on the page, not years in one field, so read it as a floor and a ceiling, not a verdict.

Do you keep my resume?

Yes, so you can pick up where you left off: your resume, the job description and the result are kept on our server until you ask us to delete them. Every result has a "Delete my resume now" link, or email hello@prept.fyi. If you create an account, your resume and the job come with you. Their text is sent to Google's Gemini to read the requirements; Google does not use it to improve its products.

How is this different from the other free tools?

Job match tells you whether to apply. The resume optimizer rewrites your lines for the job once you have decided to, the ATS checker tells you whether a tracking system can read the file, and the interview question generator gets you ready for the call.
